Keeping auxiliary batteries charged when you're travelling, towing or out on the water shouldn't require a complicated charging system.
The new Trolltek™ 40Amp DC/DC Charger with integrated MPPT Solar Regulator combines alternator and solar charging into one compact, rugged unit. Designed for 12V battery systems and demanding marine, 4WD, caravan and off-grid applications, it provides an easy way to keep lithium and other auxiliary batteries charged while you're on the move or parked up.

A DC/DC charger takes power from your vehicle or boat's charging system and delivers a controlled charging profile to your auxiliary battery.
The Trolltek 40Amp DC/DC Charger goes a step further by incorporating an MPPT solar regulator, allowing both your alternator and solar panels to feed the same charging system.
That means your battery can recharge from the vehicle or boat while the engine is running, then continue taking advantage of available solar energy when you're stopped.
The charger automatically manages the available inputs, with alternator priority as standard, so there's no need to manually switch between charging sources.
MPPT stands for Maximum Power Point Tracking.
Rather than simply passing available solar power to the battery, an MPPT regulator continuously monitors the output of the connected solar panel and adjusts its operating parameters to maximise the usable energy available for charging.
This is particularly useful when solar conditions aren't ideal, such as during cloudy weather, changing temperatures or periods of lower light.
The Trolltek charger accepts unregulated solar panels from 9–32V, up to 200W, providing a straightforward way to incorporate solar into a dual-battery installation.
Charging equipment installed in a boat, 4WD, camper or caravan can be exposed to water, dust, vibration and significant temperature changes.
The Trolltek 40Amp DC/DC Charger carries an IP68 rating and is designed to withstand harsh marine and off-road environments.
With a compact footprint of just 188 x 127 x 40mm and a weight of approximately 1.28kg, it can also be installed where space is at a premium.
Built-in protection includes:
Low-voltage protection
Over-voltage protection
Over-temperature protection
Reverse polarity protection
The charger is also smart-alternator compatible, making it suitable for use with many modern vehicle charging systems.
The charger is supplied configured for use with Trolltek LiFePO4 lithium batteries, with charging voltages pre-set to suit the Trolltek lithium range.
It isn't limited to lithium, however.
Selectable charging profiles provide compatibility with:
LiFePO4 lithium
Standard lead-acid
AGM
Gel
Calcium batteries
This makes the charger suitable for new lithium installations as well as a wide variety of existing auxiliary battery systems.
Correct charging is important for battery performance and service life.
The Trolltek charger uses automatic multi-stage charging to manage the battery through the charging process. It delivers high current during the bulk stage, adjusts charging as the battery approaches full capacity, and provides maintenance charging where appropriate for the selected battery chemistry.
The result is a charging system that can be permanently installed and left to manage the battery automatically.
The combination of 40A DC/DC charging, MPPT solar input and an IP68 enclosure makes this charger particularly well suited to applications where reliable auxiliary power is important.
Typical installations include:
4WD dual-battery systems
Caravans and camper trailers
Touring and off-grid vehicles
Boats and marine battery systems
Trolling motor battery installations
Portable and fixed off-grid power systems
Auxiliary batteries for fridges, lighting and electronics
For boat owners, it provides a practical way to recharge a dedicated lithium battery bank from the vessel's charging system while underway, while also allowing solar to contribute when the boat is stationary.
For 4WD and caravan users, the same principle means the auxiliary battery can recover while driving and continue charging from solar at camp.

For many auxiliary battery installations, combining the DC/DC charger and solar regulator into one unit means fewer components, simpler wiring and less equipment to find space for.
The Trolltek™ 40Amp DC/DC Charger with MPPT Solar Regulator provides a compact solution for keeping auxiliary batteries charged from both the engine charging system and solar.
Whether you're building a lithium-powered 4WD, setting up a caravan for extended off-grid travel or looking for an onboard charging solution for a boat or trolling motor battery, the new Trolltek charger provides both charging sources in one rugged package.
